I’ve been advocating in several past posts for the use of LXD as a virtual development environment - see for instance “Setting up ROS 2 Jazzy with LXD”. But when setting up such environment for ROS 2, we find ourselves downloading hundreds of packages which may take some times.

ROS 2 Jazzy Jalisco is out! ROS 2 Release Team did it again, shipping a brand new ROS 2 LTS distro. The latest release is named Jazzy Jalisco, a fine name given that the latest ROSCon (2023) was held in New Orleans!

In this post, we will see how to launch a Linux container that is isolated, not only from other containers, but also from the local network. The container will however have access to internet.

ROS 2 Humble Hawksbill is out! Congratulations to Open Robotics and through them to the entire ROS 2 community. This is really quite an event as it marks an important milestone: it is the first 5 year LTS release for ROS 2.

The 5th of June 2020 marks the release of ROS 2 Foxy Fitzroy, a 3 years long-term support (LTS) release and the first ROS 2 distribution to target Ubuntu 20.04.

In this post, we will discuss how to setup a Linux container - a.k.a LXC - for our ROS Noetic development. Developing in containers has several advantages such as: allowing us to use a different Linux distribution than the one we’ve installed on our host machine providing a repeatable course of actions messing around, installing a tons of dependencies without polluting our computer burning the container to the ground and starting fresh again easily There are of course many other upsides but those are the one we are really interested in for now.
